Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam has invited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to visit the country as Nigeria and Singapore seek to strengthen bilateral relations and expand areas of cooperation.
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Nigerian Mission House in New York.
According to Ibrahim, Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Burhan Gafoor, delivered the invitation in a letter from President Shanmugaratnam during a visit to the Nigerian Permanent Mission House.
Ibrahim, who received the letter, thanked the Singaporean government for the invitation and assured Gafoor that he would convey it to President Tinubu.
The Nigerian envoy also said Tinubu would make time to visit Singapore in the nearest future.
Ibrahim noted that the economic reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration had attracted international interest, including from Singapore, particularly in the areas of multilateral cooperation and national development.
He also compared the boldness of Tinubu’s economic reforms with the transformation associated with Singapore’s late former Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.
The proposed visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both countries to further discuss economic cooperation and other areas of mutual interest.
