Joe Igbokwe Blasts Makinde Over UN Probe Call, Says Governor ‘Embarrassed Himself’

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has criticized Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his call for the United Nations to conduct an independent investigation into the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the state.

Governor Makinde made the appeal on Monday while receiving the rescued victims from the military. He argued that the circumstances surrounding the incident raised critical questions that warranted an independent inquiry beyond Nigeria’s domestic institutions.

Reacting to the governor’s remarks, Igbokwe, in a post shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, described the call as unnecessary and accused Makinde of bringing embarrassment upon himself and the state.

“Come ooooo, is Governor Seyi Makinde the only wise man in Nigeria? The way he is wired worries me to the marrows,” Igbokwe wrote.

He added, “He has embarrassed himself, his state, his image, his status, office etc. This is reckless, a ruse and totally uncalled for.”

Makinde’s call for an international investigation has continued to generate mixed reactions, with supporters describing it as a move aimed at ensuring transparency, while critics argue that Nigeria’s security agencies are capable of handling the matter.
