The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims that the Nafiu Bala Gombe-led faction uploaded the names of a presidential candidate and other nominees to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, describing the reports as “blatant lies.”
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC insisted that INEC would not grant access to its nomination portal or issue nomination codes to any leadership it does not officially recognise.
According to the party, the electoral commission also cannot issue two separate nomination codes to different factions of the same political party.
Abdullahi challenged the Gombe faction to publicly provide evidence of the alleged upload, arguing that the claim contradicts INEC’s established nomination process.
“INEC does not issue nomination portal access or nomination codes to a leadership it does not recognise. Likewise, the Commission will not issue two nomination codes to the same political party,” the statement read.
The party warned that accepting such claims without proof would undermine the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process, noting that “otherwise, every impostor would simply upload names to the portal and proclaim themselves the authentic leadership of a political party.”
The ADC further questioned the authenticity of the alleged nomination, asking the rival faction to produce verifiable evidence of the purported upload.
The party also said it had formally drawn INEC’s attention to what it described as the possible forgery and unauthorised use of documents purportedly issued by the Commission.
According to the statement, such actions are capable of creating confusion among the public and undermining confidence in INEC’s credibility as Nigeria’s electoral umpire.
The latest development adds to the ongoing leadership dispute within the ADC, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s structure ahead of future electoral activities.
