The Labour Party (LP) has announced Hajja Bintu Konto as its vice presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Konto will join the party’s presidential flagbearer, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke, on the Labour Party ticket for the upcoming presidential race.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, who said the choice followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders across the party.
According to Asogwa, the ticket reflects the Labour Party’s commitment to offering Nigerians a leadership team defined by competence, integrity, inclusiveness, patriotism, and a proven record of public service.
Hajja Konto is a seasoned healthcare professional with decades of experience in public health. She is a trained nurse, midwife, health educator, and public health specialist, holding a Master’s degree in Public Health. She has also served as a lecturer in community health.
She currently serves as a member of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) of the Global Fund in Nigeria and is the National Treasurer of the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), alongside several other professional affiliations.
The unveiling of Konto marks a significant milestone in the Labour Party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election as it positions its leadership team ahead of the polls.
