EFCC vs Dickson: Court vindicates ex-Governor on assets declaration case

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has dismissed moves suggesting that the party has been deregistered, describing the actions behind the claim as “frivolous and embarrassing.”

Dickson made the remarks during an appearance on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, while reacting to the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which set aside its earlier ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.

According to him, the court’s latest decision did not include any mandatory order directing INEC to deregister the party, insisting that the NDC remains a legally registered political party.

“Every action behind the deregistration ruling is frivolous and embarrassing. Right now, the NDC remains a registered political party,” Dickson said.

He further alleged that attempts to question the party’s status are politically motivated and aimed at weakening opposition forces.

“What people are trying to do is to look for flimsy excuses to truncate the political opposition, destabilise, weaken and scatter the political opposition,” he added.
