Businessman and social commentator, Isaac Fayose, has claimed that former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, played a decisive role in the emergence of Seyi Makinde as Governor of Oyo State in 2019.
Isaac made the assertion in a post on his official Facebook page while weighing in on the ongoing political disagreement between Makinde and his elder brother, Ayo Fayose.
The businessman stated that he was directly involved in discussions and meetings that culminated in Makinde’s successful governorship bid, insisting that Fayose was instrumental to the process.
According to him, Ayo Fayose mobilised support for Makinde at a critical period and personally facilitated key political engagements that contributed to his victory at the polls.
Isaac further recalled several meetings attended by prominent political figures, including Victor Enahoro, son of the late nationalist, Anthony Enahoro, which he said were aimed at actualising Makinde’s governorship ambition.
He maintained that he personally appealed to his brother on Makinde’s behalf, leading to Fayose’s intervention and support.
Declaring his position in the dispute between the two politicians, Isaac said he would stand with Ayo Fayose, stressing that his stance was based on what he described as fairness and his knowledge of events leading to Makinde’s emergence as governor.
The businessman also urged the Oyo State governor to reconcile with Fayose, noting that the former Ekiti governor feels disappointed after allegedly helping him attain political office.
The comments come amid escalating political tensions between Fayose and Makinde, with the former governor recently vowing to challenge the political structure currently controlled by the Oyo State governor ahead of the 2027 elections.
