ABUJA — Demola Olarewaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing it as a “360-degree failure” and urging Nigerians to vote the President out in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Vanguard Politics Hub, Olarewaju argued that the economic situation under President Tinubu has deteriorated to such an extent that many Nigerians now view former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure more favorably.
According to him, the administration’s policies have deepened poverty and worsened the cost-of-living crisis across the country.
“Tinubu’s biggest achievement is making Nigeria poorer, and it’s because of the instability of the economy,” Olarewaju said. “Bola Tinubu has made poverty worse; he has made Buhari look like a saint.”
He pointed to the sharp increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, as evidence of the economic hardship facing citizens.
“I read someone who wrote that he misses Buhari, and I thought, ‘How can someone miss Muhammadu Buhari?’ But then I thought about it—the price I buy litres of petroleum under Buhari is now almost ten times costlier under Tinubu’s government. That is not friendly to my pocket and not friendly to the pocket of any Nigerian,” he added.
Olarewaju also criticized the government’s handling of the power sector, arguing that despite the electricity tariff band classifications, many Nigerians continue to experience inadequate power supply.
“The electricity doesn’t come,” he said, claiming that the President is disconnected from the realities faced by ordinary citizens.
“He himself took Aso Villa off the grid; he doesn’t feel what Nigerians are feeling. Tinubu’s biggest failure is his inability to connect with the everyday pains of Nigerians.”
On security, the Atiku aide accused the administration of failing to curb rising insecurity, warning that criminal activities have spread across several parts of the country.
“Almost every state of the country now is under siege. Bandits are operating in broad daylight as close as Oyo State is to Lagos State,” he stated.
Summing up his assessment of the government, Olarewaju maintained that the administration has not recorded meaningful success in any sector since assuming office.
“Tinubu has recorded zero achievement. There is no sector you can point to that he recorded any success. I refer to him as a 360-degree failure, which is why I believe he should be voted out in 2027,” he said.
His remarks come amid ongoing debates over the state of Nigeria’s economy, security challenges, and the performance of the Tinubu administration ahead of the next election cycle.
