The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s respect for the faith, values, and spiritual heritage of millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world observing the sacred Islamic festival.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful both in Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a season of deep spiritual reflection, sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion toward humanity.

He urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation and reflect on the need for peace, unity, security, and national progress.

The minister further called on citizens to embrace the spirit of brotherhood, tolerance, and shared humanity as the country continues its pursuit of sustainable development and prosperity.

“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement added.
