Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, describing the decision as being in the best interest of Osun State and the Yoruba people globally.
The governor stated that the endorsement was a moral obligation, noting that Osun remains the ancestral home of President Tinubu and therefore deserves to rally support for one of its most prominent sons.
A statement issued on Monday by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the governor made the remarks while inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ilesa-Ife-Ibadan Expressway.
Speaking during the inspection, Adeleke said President Tinubu deserved the support of the people irrespective of political affiliations.
“I am the governor of the ancestral birthplace of Mr President. How can I have my own in the saddle and think twice before embracing him? I need no persuasion to act, as I have declared repeatedly, on our endorsement of Mr President,” he said.
The governor added that Osun people considered themselves fortunate to have one of their own occupying the nation’s highest office.
“How many governors are as lucky as me? Well, my brother, Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, will claim to be luckier. But we in Osun State count ourselves lucky and privileged to have one of our illustrious sons and fathers at the helm of affairs of Nigeria,” Adeleke stated.
While insisting that the endorsement transcends partisan politics, the governor expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for ongoing infrastructure projects in the state, particularly the reconstruction of the Ilesa-Ife-Ibadan Motorway.
According to him, the pace and quality of work on the road project would significantly improve connectivity and economic activities across major towns in the state.
Adeleke also disclosed that his administration had rehabilitated several federal roads since assuming office in 2022, while over 300 kilometres of state roads had also been reconstructed.
He further appealed to the Federal Government to refund the state for federal road projects undertaken by his administration.
The governor also thanked President Tinubu for approving the reconstruction of the Ibadan-Iwo-Osogbo Road and the Gbongan-Akoda Road, adding that he would soon seek presidential approval for the reconstruction of the Osogbo-Ilesa Road.
