Atiku Urges Caution as Supreme Court Affirms David Mark’s ADC Leadership, Warns Against Complacency

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cautioned Nigerians and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against premature celebration following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Senator David Mark as the party’s leader, stressing that the political struggle ahead remains decisive.

The ruling, widely seen as a stabilising moment for the opposition party after months of internal disputes, is expected to refocus the ADC on rebuilding its structure and strengthening its strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement, Atiku described the judgment as a validation of the party’s leadership and a reflection of the will of its supporters, while emphasising that it should not lead to complacency.

“Even as we welcome the Supreme Court’s firm affirmation of Senator David Mark and the leadership of our great party, the African Democratic Congress, no one should be lulled into complacency,” he said.

He added that the moment represents a responsibility rather than an endpoint, noting that the party’s mission is rooted in broader national aspirations.

“This victory belongs to Nigerians, the millions who have refused to surrender their future. The road ahead remains long in our collective mission to reclaim and rebuild our country,” Atiku stated.

Reinforcing his call for sustained political engagement, he urged supporters to remain vigilant and committed as preparations intensify for the next electoral cycle.

“We thank them, and we urge them to remain steadfast, because the struggle is far from over. As we press on, let this enduring truth guide us: eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” he added.

The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to bring temporary stability to the ADC, allowing the party to shift focus toward alliance-building, grassroots mobilisation, and long-term electoral planning.
