Nigeria can’t afford fresh strike, Gbajabiamila tells ASUU, ministers

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has openly declared support for the governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, signaling a significant boost to the emerging 2027 political landscape in the state.

Gbajabiamila made his position known while receiving Hamzat during a consultation visit, where he commended the deputy governor’s leadership qualities and preparedness for higher responsibility.

Describing Hamzat as a disciplined and capable leader, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed confidence that Lagos would remain stable and progressive under his leadership.

“Dr. Hamzat, you’re a man of honour, and it shows that you do not take things for granted, especially judging by this consultation move,” Gbajabiamila said.

He went further to offer a strong public endorsement, stating:
“But I am saying it publicly that you can take me for granted because I have confidence in your ability and capacity. So, take my support for granted. My constituency, Surulere, is for you—and Lagos is for you.”

Earlier at the meeting, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Musiliu Obanikoro, highlighted the growing support for Hamzat’s ambition. According to him, consultations across key stakeholders have yielded widespread endorsement.

“I can confidently tell the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu that the level of endorsement has been overwhelming,” Obanikoro stated.

The delegation accompanying Hamzat included notable political figures such as Alhaji Muti Are, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Bode Oyedele, Engineer Adekunle Olayinka, and Dr. Hakeem Shittu.

Others present at the meeting were Saheed Kekereekun, Dr. Jebe, and Rasaq Ajala, among several party stakeholders.

Hamzat’s consultation rounds are widely seen as part of early strategic moves ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship race, with endorsements like Gbajabiamila’s expected to shape the dynamics within the state’s political structure.
