2027 Oyo Guber Race: Adelabu Denies Tinubu, Olubadan Endorsement — Warns Aspirants Against Name-Dropping

The race for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State is already heating up, but former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has moved to set the record straight amid growing speculation and political maneuvering.

Speaking shortly after arriving in Ibadan following his resignation from the Federal Executive Council, Adelabu dismissed widespread rumours suggesting that President Bola Tinubu and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, have endorsed any candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

According to him, such claims are not only false but also misleading, urging aspirants to refrain from invoking the names of respected leaders to gain political advantage.

He emphasized that President Tinubu has maintained neutrality, stressing that the governorship contest remains open to all interested members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adelabu added that the President’s focus is on national leadership, not local endorsements.

“He has asked party members to engage among themselves and seek consensus where possible. If that fails, the party will proceed with direct primaries,” Adelabu explained.

Addressing rumours involving the Olubadan, Adelabu described them as unfounded, reiterating that the traditional ruler remains a father figure to all, regardless of political leanings.

Beyond clarifying the endorsement controversy, Adelabu used the opportunity to formally declare his ambition to govern Oyo State, presenting himself as a candidate driven by service rather than personal gain.

He pledged a people-focused administration that prioritizes the welfare of the masses, including women, youths, the less privileged, and all residents of the state.

“My ambition is not for personal enrichment or to favour a select group,” he said. “I am committed to delivering governance that truly serves the people of Oyo State.”

As political activities gradually build toward 2027, Adelabu’s remarks signal an early push for credibility and transparency within the party, while also drawing a line against what he described as manipulative political tactics.
