Controversial Islamic scholar, Ahmad Gumi, has described the ongoing peace engagements between the United States and Iran as negotiations between long-standing adversaries.
Gumi made the remarks while commenting on the complex relationship between the two nations, noting that despite deep-rooted hostility and mutual distrust, both sides have continued to engage in diplomatic discussions.
According to him, Iran views the United States as its “biggest devil,” while the United States has historically labelled Iran as part of the “axis of evil.”
He further observed that both countries often perceive each other through the lens of terrorism, yet are still willing to meet at the negotiating table.
“Peace talks between enemies. Iran sees the USA as the Biggest Devil. The USA sees Iran as part of the Axis of Evil,” Gumi said.
“All parties see the other as terrorists. Yet they are over a round table. So don’t tell me the narrative that ‘we don’t dialogue with terrorists’.”
His comments highlight the paradox often present in international diplomacy, where nations with deep ideological differences continue to pursue dialogue in the interest of strategic and global stability.
