The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has described the emergence of Monday Okpebholo as governor-elect of Edo State as a defining moment for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a turning point for the state’s development trajectory.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio congratulated Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, on what he called a “hard-fought but well-deserved victory” in the Edo State governorship election.

According to the Senate President, the outcome of the poll represents not only a political win for the APC but also a broader victory for the people of Edo State. He noted that the triumph is expected to open doors for increased federal presence, including infrastructural projects and development initiatives across the state.

Akpabio praised Okpebholo’s track record as a senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, highlighting his commitment to public service and capacity to deliver meaningful progress. He said the election result reflects the electorate’s confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership.

He further urged the governor-elect to sustain his dedication to governance and ensure that the benefits of democracy are felt in all parts of the state. Emphasizing unity, Akpabio called on Edo residents to support the incoming administration, regardless of political affiliations.

The Senate President also advised the new leadership to be magnanimous in victory by embracing inclusiveness and leveraging collective expertise for the state’s advancement.

“With the victory secured, the responsibility ahead is significant and demands collaborative effort,” he stated, expressing optimism that Okpebholo and Idahosa would build on existing progress and steer Edo State toward greater development.
