Former lawmaker Shehu Sani has raised alarms over the waning influence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the party as a shadow of its former self.
In a post on his X handle, Sani reacted to the escalating defections and internal disputes shaking the party, once celebrated as “the biggest party in Africa.”
“The once powerful PDP, which produced three presidents and propelled influential figures into positions of authority, is now deserted,” he stated, emphasizing the need to extract lessons from what he called the party’s “fatal decline.”
Sani urged political analysts to conduct an “autopsy” on the PDP to pinpoint the causes of its current troubles. “The mighty ship is sinking, and most of the passengers have jumped out. Was the PDP ship hit by a missile, or was it overloaded, or was it the miscalculations of the captains, or the stormy weather?” he asked.
His comments follow a spate of defections and ongoing internal crises within the party, raising concerns about its ability to remain competitive ahead of the 2027 general elections.
