The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has expressed the commission’s willingness to collaborate with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to enhance logistics and security during the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan made this known while responding to the Air Force’s pledge of support during a courtesy visit by NAF officials to the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
According to him, effective logistics remain a critical factor in the success of any election, noting that past electoral processes in Nigeria have often faced logistical challenges.
He said the commission is now considering fully utilising the operational and logistical capacity of the military to address these issues ahead of the next general elections.
“An election can only be as good as its logistics. Given the fact that we have always encountered logistics problems, it has dawned on me that perhaps INEC has not properly exploited the great potential we have in military logistics,” Amupitan said.
He added that discussions with the Air Force leadership had highlighted several ways the collaboration could improve the transportation and distribution of electoral materials.
The INEC chairman said the commission would be pleased to work closely with the Air Force and other branches of the military to ensure efficient movement of personnel and materials, as well as improved security during the elections.
The Nigerian Air Force had earlier offered to provide logistical assistance to the electoral body and join other security agencies in safeguarding the electoral process during the 2027 polls.
