Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has claimed that the Federal Government is aware of the identities and locations of all terrorists operating in the country.
Gumi made the assertion during an interview on DRTV while responding to allegations that he has close ties with bandits and terrorists and often advocates on their behalf.
The cleric explained that his engagements with bandits were part of peace and negotiation efforts carried out with the knowledge and involvement of security agencies.
According to him, he does not hold meetings with the groups alone but is usually accompanied by personnel from the police, military, and other security bodies.
“The government knows every terrorist by name and location. I don’t go alone to negotiate — I go with the police, military, and other security agencies,” Gumi said.
He further disclosed that traditional rulers were sometimes involved in the process, noting that he had visited forest hideouts alongside emirs and other individuals in the course of the negotiations.
“I would go to the Emirs. In fact, when we went to one forest, I even went with women into the bush,” he added.
Gumi has previously been involved in mediation efforts between authorities and armed groups in parts of northern Nigeria, a role that has generated both support and criticism from different quarters.
