Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has significantly expanded its political influence across the country, now reportedly controlling 32 out of the nation’s 36 states.
The party has achieved a complete sweep of the oil-rich South-South region, governing all six states — Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa.
In the North-Central zone, the APC also maintains strong dominance with control of Benue, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi and Plateau states.
The party holds three of the five states in the South-East — Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo — while Abia is governed by the Labour Party and Anambra remains under the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
In the South-West, APC governs four states — Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun and Ondo. Oyo is currently under the Peoples Democratic Party, while Osun is governed by the Accord Party.
The party also dominates the North-East, controlling Borno, Yobe, Taraba, Gombe, Adamawa and Bauchi states.
Similarly, the North-West remains a stronghold for the APC, with the party in power in Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna and Kano.
The figures underscore the APC’s growing political reach across Nigeria, further consolidating its position as the country’s most dominant political party ahead of future electoral contests.
