APC ‘Jittery’ as Opposition Gains Momentum Ahead of 2027 — Dele Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has alleged that Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is increasingly unsettled by the growing strength of opposition forces across the country.

Momodu made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.

According to him, recent political developments indicate that opposition parties are gaining traction and exerting pressure on the Federal Government. He dismissed what he described as the ruling party’s “propaganda,” insisting that the APC’s public posture of stability contradicts realities on the ground.

“It is obvious the ruling party is jittery, and that is why they are going all out, frenetically, to try to showcase and pretend that all is well,” Momodu said.

The ADC stalwart further claimed that the APC is grappling with internal crises in several states, arguing that reports from states such as Benue and Zamfara reflect deeper divisions within the party. He described the situation as a “house of commotion,” alleging that intra-party disputes undermine claims of unity.

Momodu also criticised the recent wave of defections into the APC, suggesting that many political office holders are motivated by fear rather than ideological alignment. He alleged that some governors defect to the ruling party over concerns about re-election prospects or possible scrutiny by anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

“If you are a governor, you are afraid of so many things, including your own shadow,” he said, alleging that some office holders feel compelled to align with the ruling party to safeguard their political futures.

Momodu contrasted the current political leadership with that of former President Goodluck Jonathan, suggesting that the prevailing climate exerts greater pressure on opposition figures and office holders.

He maintained that the unfolding political landscape signals mounting tension within the APC as opposition parties reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
