JAMB Debunks UTME, DE Fee Hike Rumours, Says Charges Unchanged Since 2019

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed reports alleging an increase in the registration fees for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE), describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the examination body clarified that its registration charges remain unchanged.

According to JAMB, candidates registering for the UTME without the optional mock examination will continue to pay ₦7,200, while those opting for the mock exam will pay ₦8,700. Direct Entry applicants are required to pay ₦5,700.

The Board stressed that the current fee structure has been in place since 2019 and has not been reviewed upward.

“It is pertinent to recall that in 2018, the Federal Executive Council approved a reduction in the UTME application fee from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500, with effect from the 2019 registration exercise,” the statement noted.

JAMB further stated that despite rising operational costs over the years, it has maintained the government-approved fee structure without any increase.

The Board urged the public to disregard contrary reports, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and affordability in the administration of its examination processes.
