Makinde to Join Atiku as ADC Running Mate? Fayose Reveals Minna Meeting Details

Abuja, Nigeria – Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has shed light on a high-profile meeting in Minna, Niger State, involving former military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

Fayose disclosed that during the closed-door talks, Makinde reportedly agreed to partner with Atiku as his vice-presidential candidate on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

According to Fayose, Peter Obi was effectively sidelined in the discussions due to concerns over his unwillingness to serve as Atiku’s deputy and potential difficulty in securing support from Northern voters as a prospective successor.

In a statement personally signed by Fayose, he said:

“Consideration was given to the fact that Peter Obi will not accept to be Atiku’s running mate and he won’t also be acceptable to the North, as Atiku’s successor.
Atiku is reportedly 70% certain of securing the ADC ticket, having ensured the party’s presidential ticket is non-zoned.

Governor Makinde agreed to join ADC on the condition that he will be handed the party’s Vice Presidential ticket, expected to be presented to Atiku’s inner caucus for ratification.

Makinde also pledged an initial contribution of N10 billion, to be released in two tranches, toward the ADC’s campaign take-off, with additional funds planned for the campaign period. He assured that he would deliver Southwest delegates for the ADC primary and leverage his influence in the South-South through his wife.”

Fayose further revealed that a follow-up meeting has been scheduled in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within the next two weeks.
