Wike Breaks Silence on Oyo PDP Crisis, Says He’s Watching Closely

Abuja — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he is closely monitoring developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, stressing that his interest is driven by his commitment to the survival and stability of the party.

Wike made this known on Monday in Abuja while speaking at the PDP’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

According to him, his focus on the situation in Oyo State stems from a desire to see the PDP regain strength and remain a formidable political force, noting that the party once governed at the federal level.

“Let me clearly state my interest: I am interested in the survival and success of this party. I am also interested in everything happening in the Oyo State PDP. That is all I am interested in,” Wike said.

The FCT minister also dismissed claims that PDP members were being intimidated, arguing that recent court rulings had settled the party’s internal disputes.

“Who will intimidate us to the end? Some of us, by the grace of God, do not see what anyone can threaten us with,” he stated.

He added that the legal battles surrounding the party’s leadership had collapsed, insisting that recognition of the Caretaker Committee was now inevitable.

“The legal battle has collapsed. They have no option but to recognise the Caretaker Committee,” Wike said.

His remarks come amid ongoing tensions between him and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, with both leaders now aligned with opposing factions within the PDP.

Recall that in November last year, a faction of the party led by Governor Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed held a national convention, which was later nullified by the Federal High Court sitting in Oyo State.
