Ex-APC Presidential Aspirant Dr. SKC Ogbonnia Quits Party, Slams Tinubu’s Leadership

Enugu — Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Enugu State, has officially resigned from the party, citing a series of failures under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In a resignation letter addressed to the APC chairman of his ward, Owelli/Amoli/Ugbo/Ogugu in Awgu Local Government Area, and copied to all party tiers up to the national level, Ogbonnia enclosed his party membership card and detailed reasons for his departure.

Ogbonnia explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with family and political allies, alongside a personal reflection on the current political climate in Nigeria and the party.

The former APC presidential hopeful, who was a founding member of the party, accused Tinubu’s leadership of failing to address critical national issues, including insecurity, poverty, and unemployment. He also criticized the party for undemocratic practices, marginalization of loyal members, nepotism, and a lack of youth inclusion in key federal appointments.

Ogbonnia further warned against the party’s plans to re-nominate Tinubu for the 2027 presidential elections, describing it as “a gross insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians.” He added that Tinubu’s handling of the country’s security challenges had compromised national sovereignty and left Nigeria vulnerable to foreign military interventions.

“Lack of internal party democracy, disregard for youth, and the pursuit of a one-party state have made it untenable for me to remain in the APC,” Ogbonnia stated.

He also claimed that President Tinubu had “lost his voice with the Nigerian people” and is increasingly isolated among key allies, including the United States.

Ogbonnia concluded by thanking the APC leadership for their support during his 2019 presidential bid and wished them well in their future endeavors.
