Fayose Warns ADC Risks Political Irrelevance Without Peter Obi as 2027 Candidate

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could become politically irrelevant if it fails to present former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

In an exclusive interview with Arise Television, Fayose described Obi as the party’s major political asset, arguing that other figures within ADC lack the capacity to generate significant national traction.

“Peter Obi is the life in ADC,” Fayose said. “I’m not saying there are no other human beings in ADC, but others are largely spent forces. Obi is the only traction, the only meaning, the only factor, the only person in ADC that matters.”

Fayose highlighted Obi’s influence during the 2023 elections, noting that his candidacy under the Labour Party helped the relatively unknown party secure seats in the House of Representatives. He added that Obi’s appeal transcends party platforms, asserting that he would attract similar support even if he contested under another lesser-known party.

While he stopped short of predicting the outcome of the 2027 presidential race, Fayose insisted that ADC’s political standing would suffer significantly without Obi as its candidate.

“Even if they don’t field Obi, their case will be worse than their coming together,” he said.
