Former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would benefit from having a political heavyweight like the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Ahmad made the remark while reacting to Wike’s recent statement that only President Bola Tinubu has the authority to remove him from office.
Speaking on Sunday in Obi-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Wike dismissed calls by his critics for his sack, insisting that President Tinubu could only remove him when he no longer has anything meaningful to contribute to the administration.
The former Rivers State governor also urged the people of his home state to take pride in his performance as FCT Minister, saying his work in Abuja reflects positively on Rivers.
Reacting to the development, Ahmad took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his admiration for Wike’s political style and influence.
“The ruling All Progressives Congress needs a political heavyweight like Nyesom Wike, very bold, strategic and unapologetically decisive,” Ahmad wrote.
Wike, a former governor elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has become one of the most prominent figures in President Tinubu’s cabinet, often drawing national attention for his outspoken positions and high-profile role in the federal government.
