Kano NNPP Crisis Deepens as Party Names Abiya Acting Chairman

0

The internal crisis rocking the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has escalated with the appointment of Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya as Acting State Chairman following the removal of the former chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa.

Abiya’s emergence followed the rejection of Dungurawa at the ward level and was subsequently endorsed by the NNPP State Executive Committee during an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Kano.

Announcing the decision, the party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, said Abiya’s appointment was made in line with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.

According to party sources, the development was triggered by the submission of a formal resolution from the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee, recommending the sack and expulsion of Dungurawa from the party.

The resolution, which originated from the Gargari Ward Executive Committee, was forwarded to the state leadership by the Dawakin Tofa Executive Committee under the leadership of Hon. Abdullahi Ali Uban Iya Dawanau.

It was gathered that the resolution was adopted during the second executive meeting of the Gargari Ward, held two weeks after the general election, where Dungurawa was accused of engaging in anti-party activities.

After reviewing the report, the State Executive Committee endorsed the ward and local government decisions, approved Dungurawa’s removal, and confirmed Abiya as Acting State Chairman.

Party officials said the move was aimed at restoring internal discipline, strengthening party unity, and repositioning the NNPP for future political engagements in Kano State.

In his response, Abiya pledged to ensure fairness and justice for all party members, while reaffirming the party’s loyalty to its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
