Onyedika Brace Fires Super Eagles to Group C Top Spot After 3–1 Win Over Uganda

Nigeria sealed top spot in Group C of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a convincing 3–1 victory over Uganda on Tuesday evening.

Already assured of a place in the Round of 16, the Super Eagles still needed to avoid defeat to finish as group winners, and Eric Chelle’s side delivered a commanding performance to meet that target.

Paul Onuachu opened the scoring in the first half, calmly converting a low cross from Fikayo Dele-Bashiru to give Nigeria an early advantage.

The Super Eagles tightened their grip on the contest after the break, with Raphael Onyedika scoring twice in quick succession to put the game firmly beyond Uganda’s reach. The Cranes managed a late response through Robert Mato, but it proved little more than a consolation.

In the group’s other fixture, Tanzania held Tunisia to a 1–1 draw, a result that saw the Carthage Eagles finish second with four points.

Nigeria’s emphatic win confirms their status as Group C winners as attention now turns to the knockout stage of the tournament.
