A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has warned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, that Nigerians will no longer tolerate excuses of technical failures during elections.
George issued the warning on Monday while appearing as a guest on Politics Today, a political programme aired on Channels Television, as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections.
The elder statesman urged the new INEC chairman to ensure a credible and transparent electoral process, cautioning him against repeating what he described as the “intentional mistakes” that marred the 2023 general elections under the previous INEC leadership.
Recalling the controversy surrounding the last polls, George said the necessary electoral tools were provided, yet the process was undermined by claims of system failure.
“Remember the last election, when Buhari bought the necessary tools. What did we do? They said there was a glitch,” he said.
Emphasising the need for accountability and preparedness, George stressed that such explanations would no longer be acceptable to Nigerians.
“So let’s reverse back. Mr Amupitan, there should be no glitch in this system,” he added.
His comments come amid growing public scrutiny of INEC and renewed calls for electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 elections.
