The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that world-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal road accident on Monday around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State.
In a statement issued by the FRSC spokesperson, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the incident occurred at about 12:00 p.m. and involved two vehicles: a black Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN (private), in which Joshua was travelling, and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck with an unknown registration number.
According to preliminary reports from the Ogun State Sector Command, a total of five adult males were involved in the crash. Two persons lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Ogungbemide confirmed that Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.
The injured victim was promptly evacuated to a medical facility for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu.
Ogungbemide noted that FRSC operatives arrived swiftly at the scene, facilitating immediate rescue operations. He added that the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) has been notified and is handling further investigation and documentation related to the incident.
The FRSC reiterated its call on motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations, particularly regarding the proper parking of heavy-duty vehicles on highways, to prevent avoidable tragedies.
