Christmas Night Explosion Triggers Panic in Sokoto Community

0

Residents of Jabo village in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State were gripped by fear on Thursday night, Christmas Day, following a loud explosion suspected to have been caused by an explosive device.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred suddenly in the night when a mysterious object allegedly landed in the community, triggering a loud blast that sent villagers into panic. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, as the object reportedly did not detonate within a crowded area.

A resident who confirmed the incident said the unexpected sound initially made villagers fear they were under attack.

“It happened suddenly in the night. The explosion caused fear, but thank God it did not land among people,” the source said.

Security agencies have since been alerted, and investigations are ongoing to determine the source and nature of the explosion. As of the time of filing this report, authorities are yet to officially confirm whether the object was an explosive device or explain how it found its way into the community.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Tambuwal Local Government Area has remained relatively peaceful in recent times, making the incident a source of concern among locals, who are now calling for increased surveillance and a stronger security presence in rural communities.

Meanwhile, there are growing concerns among residents that the incident may be connected to recent international security developments, particularly comments attributed to former US President Donald Trump regarding possible military action in North-West Nigeria to dislodge terrorist groups operating in the region. However, no official link has been established.

Security agencies are expected to issue a formal statement as investigations continue.
