Former presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the Kano State Commissioner of Police to immediately withdraw security personnel stationed at the Nasarawa Palace, where the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, is currently residing.
Kwankwaso made the call on Monday while speaking as the chief guest at the official launch of the Kano State Community Security Guards initiative, established by the state government to complement conventional security efforts.
In his address, the former Kano State governor insisted that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the only legitimate Emir of Kano, following his reinstatement by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Kwankwaso also criticised individuals he accused of backing Aminu Ado Bayero’s continued stay at the Nasarawa Palace, describing the location as unfit and referring to it as a “cemetery.”
The Kano emirship dispute resurfaced shortly after Governor Yusuf assumed office, when the state government repealed the previous emirate law, removed Aminu Ado Bayero, and reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. Since then, tensions have persisted over the control and recognition of the traditional institution.
Security agencies have maintained a presence around the Nasarawa Palace amid concerns over possible unrest, as the political and legal dimensions of the emirship tussle continue to unfold.
