Osun State University, Osogbo, has called on eligible students to take full advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ease the financial burden of their academic pursuits.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, made this appeal during the matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session held at the university’s main campus in Osogbo, Osun State.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the university admitted more than 13,000 students from the over 40,000 candidates who participated in its Post-UTME screening exercise.
Prof. Adebooye encouraged new students who meet the criteria to apply for the Federal Government-backed loan scheme, describing it as a vital intervention designed to ensure that no willing learner is denied access to education due to financial hardship.
“To support your education, the University is in full partnership with the Federal Government’s NELFUND Student Loan Scheme. I urge all eligible students to apply and leverage this laudable initiative,” he said.
The VC added that the university also offers over 300 scholarship opportunities to assist brilliant but financially challenged students across its campuses.
Addressing a growing concern, Prof. Adebooye lamented the persistent accommodation challenges faced by students, particularly the skyrocketing rents imposed by private landlords.
He assured the matriculating students that the university management was already working on sustainable solutions.
“We are aware of the exploitation many of our students are facing from landlords who impose exorbitant rents. We are taking decisive steps to break these excesses by the coming session. We ask for your patience and understanding,” he said.
The ceremony comes on the heels of the university’s recent unveiling of seven major infrastructural projects, including a new Senate Building, as part of events marking its 15th Convocation.
