China has renewed its pledge to back Nigeria’s security efforts and ongoing economic reforms, as the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yu Dunhai, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, in Abuja.
In a statement released by the Chinese Embassy on Wednesday, Yu said the China-Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership had “entered the fast track,” driven by deep political trust and consistent cooperation.
He highlighted that the Recommendations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for the 15th Five-Year Plan underscore Beijing’s commitment to high-standard opening-up and global development sharing—opportunities he said Nigeria stands to benefit from.
Yu emphasized that both nations have always supported each other on matters central to their national interests, noting that China will continue to assist Nigeria in tackling terrorism and strengthening its security architecture.
He added that China is ready to work with Nigeria to implement zero-tariff access for Nigerian exports and to commence preparations for activities marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, which coincides with the China-Africa Year of Cultural Exchanges.
“These steps will consolidate strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and deliver greater benefits to the peoples of both nations,” Yu stated.
In his response, Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the one-China principle and described China as a “comprehensive strategic partner.” He praised China’s longstanding support for Nigeria’s economic and social development and expressed readiness to enhance collaboration in manufacturing, trade, investment, and broader development alignment.
