Nasarawa Governor Unveils N517.5 Billion 2026 Budget

Lafia, Nasarawa State – Governor Abdullahi Sule on Wednesday presented a N517.5 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, promising strategic consolidation of ongoing projects and expansion of job opportunities across the state.

The budget, themed “Budget of Strategic Consolidation,” is designed to enhance infrastructure, boost industrialisation and agriculture, improve healthcare and education, and strengthen urban renewal and environmental management.

Governor Sule expressed appreciation to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, and Assembly members for their support in passing previous appropriation bills, saying the new budget aims to consolidate development achievements while driving sustainable growth.

“In line with our development agenda, the 2026 Budget seeks to consolidate ongoing infrastructure projects to enhance connectivity and economic competitiveness. It will also expand job creation through industrialisation, SME support, and agricultural productivity, while improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare and education services,” Sule said.

The budget allocates N212.79 billion (41.12%) to recurrent expenditure and N304.75 billion (58.88%) to capital projects. Key sectoral allocations include:

  • Administrative Sector: N108.70 billion
  • Economic Sector: N221.84 billion
  • Law and Justice: N16.09 billion
  • Social Sector: N170.92 billion

A deeper sectoral breakdown shows:

  • Infrastructure: N157.80 billion (30.49%)
  • Education: N92.91 billion (7.95%)
  • Health: N37.19 billion (7.19%)
  • Agriculture & Water Resources: N31.85 billion (6.15%)
  • Environment & Community Development: N28.32 billion (5.42%)
  • Science, Technology & Digital Economy: N4.92 billion (0.95%)
  • Governance, Security & General Administration: N142.96 billion (27.62%)
  • Youth & Sports Development: N10.01 billion (1.93%)
  • Humanitarian & Women Empowerment: N2.50 billion (0.48%)

Governor Sule highlighted six strategic agencies to drive modernization and institutional strengthening, including the Nasarawa State Fire & Rescue Service Agency, Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund (NASETFund), Institute of Leather & Science Technology in Doma, and the Nasarawa State Multi-Door Court House (NSMDC).

Speaker Jatau pledged the Assembly’s commitment to timely passage of the budget and urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to strictly adhere to budget provisions, describing compliance as “non-negotiable.”

He also called on the people of Nasarawa State to support the government’s development agenda while promoting peace, unity, and mutual respect across political, ethnic, and religious lines.
