Senator Adams Oshiomhole on Monday took a swipe at former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of poor judgment and controversial decisions during his time in office.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oshiomhole did not mince words as he criticised the former minister’s handling of key national institutions and projects.
“Rotimi Amaechi is the most terrible. Look at the choice of language. A guy who shut down the Rivers judiciary because he wanted to appoint his own personal favourite as Chief Judge of Rivers State. Once he couldn’t have his way, the Rivers State judiciary was shut down for almost two years,” Oshiomhole said.
The former Edo State governor also faulted Amaechi’s management of the country’s railway sector, claiming that despite overseeing the ministry for eight years, he failed to prioritise projects that would benefit Nigerians.
“Look at the crisis in the railway system that he superintended over for eight unbroken years. He was unable to get the priorities right, playing to the gallery. Now he rather constructed a rail, not to Kano, not to Port Harcourt, where he came from, but to Niger Republic,” Oshiomhole added.
He questioned the rationale behind the multi-million-dollar rail line to Niger Republic, asking: “Which goods are we sending to Niger Republic?”
Oshiomhole, however, noted that former President Muhammadu Buhari granted his ministers full autonomy to carry out their duties, insisting that Amaechi had no excuse for the decisions taken under his watch.
“And if you were a minister under Buhari, you will be fair to him, life or death, that Buhari gave anyone he appointed free hand to do the job he assigned to you. That is what Buhari was,” he stated.
The remarks have sparked renewed debate over Amaechi’s legacy and the broader impact of infrastructural decisions made under the Buhari administration.
