Peter Obi Blasts Nigeria’s Leadership Amid Rising Insecurity: “Comfort Over Courage, Politics Over People”

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has slammed Nigeria’s leadership over the country’s worsening security situation, warning that the nation is “bleeding” due to leaders prioritizing comfort, politics, and power over public service.

In a post on his verified X account late Sunday, Obi highlighted that the past 10 days have seen unprecedented levels of chaos, insecurity, and institutional decay—developments he says should alarm all leaders.

“Nigeria is going through troubling times, not by fate, but by the collective leadership failures that allow insecurity, lawlessness, and institutional decay to thrive,” he wrote.

Obi noted that the country faces daily tragedies, citing the recent abduction of 13 female farmers in Askira-Uba, Borno State, by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists as a stark reminder of the leadership vacuum.

“We have all watched a nation blessed with people of strength and resilience drift into avoidable disorder. Are we cursed, or are we the curse?” he asked.

He further stressed that governance is a duty, not a title, and called for competent, compassionate leadership that responds to citizens’ needs: “No serious nation survives on excuses, indifference, or absentee leadership. What we are witnessing is not inevitable; it is the direct consequence of leaders not valuing human life.”

Concluding his statement, Obi offered solidarity to Nigerians affected by recent insecurity: “To every Nigerian shaken in these past 10 days, my heart is with you. You deserve safety, you deserve peace. We deserve a government that values our lives above politics. Nigeria must rise again.”
