Benin City, Edo State – Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticised former Governor Godwin Obaseki, accusing him of failing the people of Edo State, while commending Governor Monday Okpebholo for his impactful projects during his first year in office.
Speaking on Sunday in Benin, Oshiomhole responded to claims by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Okpebholo’s initial year in office was unproductive. He described Obaseki’s tenure as one characterised by numerous “groundbreaking ceremonies” that yielded little tangible results.
“I don’t know why the media still quotes the PDP, which is a dead party. I urge journalists to rely on verifiable facts from events they cover across the state rather than statements that lack credibility,” Oshiomhole said.
Highlighting the achievements of the current administration, the former governor pointed to ongoing infrastructural projects, including the flyover construction at Ramat Park, aimed at reducing traffic congestion in one of the state’s busiest areas. He emphasised the economic benefits of reduced travel time and fuel savings for Edo residents.
Oshiomhole also cited the numerous road projects under construction across the state as evidence of Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to development, dismissing claims that such initiatives were politically motivated propaganda.
On education, Oshiomhole accused the Obaseki administration of neglecting schools, leaving many institutions under-resourced and understaffed. He applauded Okpebholo’s efforts to rehabilitate schools, improve learning environments, and recruit 5,000 new teachers.
He further highlighted increased funding for higher institutions, noting that Ambrose Alli University (AAU) and Edo University, Iyamho, have received expanded subventions. According to him, AAU’s monthly subvention rose from N41 million to N500 million, while Edo University now receives N250 million monthly, a move he described as a “strategic investment in higher education.”
