Jide Ojo Dismisses Vote-Buying Claims in Anambra Election as “Convenient Excuses”

Public affairs analyst, Jide Ojo, has dismissed allegations of vote buying in the recently concluded Anambra governorship election, describing them as “convenient excuses” by losing candidates to justify their defeat.

Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday, Ojo argued that some contestants, particularly those from smaller political parties such as the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), were using the vote-buying narrative to rationalize their poor showing at the polls.

“This issue of vote buying, I think, is just a convenient excuse for people to mourn their losses,” Ojo said. “Imagine someone like the Labour Party candidate or the ADC candidate saying they could not have won because of vote buying — it is not true.”

He emphasized that electoral success is influenced by more than financial inducements, pointing out that factors such as strong party structures, visibility, and well-organized campaign strategies play a much bigger role in determining victory.
