ICPC Urges Stakeholders to Recommit to Integrity, Ethical Leadership in Nigeria

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called on Nigerians, especially key stakeholders in governance and civil society, to reaffirm their commitment to building a corruption-free society where leaders prioritize the well-being of citizens.

The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), made the call on Wednesday during the National Integrity Summit themed “Integrity is Everything: Building Ethical Leaders for a Sustainable Future”, held at the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja.

Represented by a deputy director at the Commission, Mr. Kingsley Obi, Dr. Aliyu emphasized that ethical leadership remains central to Nigeria’s growth and stability.

“As we gather to discuss the importance of ethical leadership, let us strive to reaffirm our commitment to building a corruption-free society where leaders prioritize the well-being of citizens and the nation,” he said.

He noted that the summit’s theme aligns with the ICPC’s core mandate of promoting good governance, enhancing public trust, and ensuring accountability, transparency, and integrity in public service.

Dr. Aliyu also highlighted ongoing collaborations between the Commission and non-governmental organizations across the country aimed at strengthening anti-corruption efforts.

He commended the summit organizers and participants for their sustained dedication, describing their contributions as “vital in the collective fight against corruption.”

In his welcome address, the Convener of the summit, Comrade Charles Agubor, urged participants to embody integrity in both words and actions.

“Let your character and actions speak louder than your words. Let your service to humanity reflect selflessness, and let your ambition be guided by moral principles,” Agubor said.

He stressed that the future of Nigeria rests on the shoulders of young leaders whose integrity would determine how far the country progresses.

Also speaking, Dr. Daniel Omofoman, Executive Director of the African Electoral Integrity Initiative, described the ICPC as a critical partner in promoting electoral integrity and transparent governance.

“The Commission plays a vital role in ensuring that Nigeria’s elections and public institutions remain anchored on honesty, fairness, and accountability,” Omofoman noted.

The summit brought together representatives from civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders, all of whom pledged renewed commitment to promoting ethical leadership and national integrity.
