Ex-Abia Commissioner Claims Lawmaker Lied About Head Injury in Assembly Clash

Former Abia State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, has insisted that the head injury sustained by Stephen Ucheonye Akachukwu, a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, was real and not the product of artificial intelligence, as some have claimed.

Okiyi Kalu alleged that Akachukwu suffered a broken head following an altercation with the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Uchenna Okoro Kalu, during a meeting of Labour Party legislators in Aba.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Okiyi accused the lawmaker of lying to his constituents and the people of Abia State by publicly denying that any fight took place. He insisted that Akachukwu should resign for allegedly misleading the public.

“Uchenna brazenly lied to his constituents and Ndi Abia when he publicly claimed that he was not attacked and his head broken. He is still carrying the stitching scars from the incident which happened in August 2025 in Aba,” Okiyi stated.

The former Commissioner further alleged that the altercation began when Hon. Ucheonye, “in a fit of rage,” threw a drink at Hon. Okoro during a caucus meeting at the residence of Hon. Fyne Ahuama. He claimed the injury was inflicted with a whisky glass, not a beer bottle as earlier reported.

“Contrary to false claims of AI generation of the pictures, it was actually Honorable Ucheonye that took the pictures and the circulating video himself, and sent them to Governor Alex Otti, who then forwarded them to principal officers of the House. Did he send AI-generated pictures to the Governor?” Okiyi asked.

Okiyi Kalu challenged the lawmaker to submit himself to members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Abia State branch, and the press for examination to verify the authenticity of his injuries.

He also condemned attempts to blame the opposition for circulating the pictures and videos of the incident, insisting they were genuine and taken immediately after the altercation.
