Tinubu: EFCC Recovers Over N500bn, Secures 7,000 Convictions in Two Years

President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered assets worth over ₦500 billion and secured more than 7,000 convictions within the past two years, a feat he attributed to his administration’s commitment to transparency and non-interference in the agency’s operations.

Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the opening of the 7th EFCC–NJI Capacity-Building Workshop for Judges and Justices in Abuja, Tinubu said the anti-graft agency’s performance reflected his government’s resolve to strengthen institutions rather than individuals.

“As an administration, we have prioritised public accountability by empowering anti-corruption agencies to operate independently,” he said. “The EFCC has achieved over 7,000 convictions and recovered assets exceeding ₦500 billion in just two years.”

He revealed that the recovered funds were being reinvested into critical development and social programmes such as the Students’ Loan Scheme and Consumer Credit Initiative, underscoring the government’s goal of ensuring stolen public wealth benefits ordinary Nigerians.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s stance that no political figure or public official is above the law, stressing that justice must be served without bias or favour.

“There is no person or group who can accuse this administration of shielding political allies,” he stated. “Both the judiciary and anti-corruption agencies have been given free rein to dispense justice and restore integrity in governance.”

Tinubu called on the judiciary to remain steadfast and patriotic in the discharge of their duties, warning that corruption spares no one — not even judges.

“Corruption is no respecter of persons. Judges, too, face the consequences of a broken system when public institutions fail,” he cautioned.

He further urged collaboration between the executive, legislature, and judiciary to sustain the anti-corruption momentum, adding that Nigeria’s progress depends on justice and fairness.

“A Nigeria free of corruption is possible,” Tinubu declared. “If we all do what is right within our spheres of influence, no offender will go unpunished. A strong, credible judiciary remains central to achieving this vision.”
