Kebbi Govt Approves ₦4.05bn for Rehabilitation of General Hospitals

The Kebbi State Executive Council has approved the rehabilitation of seven general hospitals across the state at a total cost of ₦4.05 billion, reaffirming its commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Junaidu Marshall, disclosed this while briefing newsmen after the council meeting presided over by Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

Marshall listed the benefiting hospitals as Kambaza, Suru, Kamba, Dirin-Daji, Kangiwa, Koko, and Yauri, noting that Argungu General Hospital had already been fully rehabilitated and equipped with modern facilities.

He added that other hospitals in Zaga, Zuru, Bunza, Gulma, Bena, Jega, Shanga, and the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi were either completed or currently undergoing rehabilitation.

According to him, a total of 16 general hospitals have been rehabilitated so far under Governor Idris’s administration, while the new approval brings the total to 23. The governor, he said, pledged to ensure all 30 general hospitals in the state are fully rehabilitated before the end of his tenure.

The council also approved ₦570 million for the Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) to register 45,000 vulnerable persons under the State Social Register—ensuring that each of the 225 wards benefits at least 200 individuals.

In further support of the healthcare sector, Marshall revealed that the state had provided counterpart funding for the World Bank IMPACT project covering 73 primary healthcare centres and approved the rehabilitation of an additional 42 centres statewide.

Additionally, ₦407.5 million was approved as a take-off grant for the Kebbi State Drugs, Medical and Consumables Agency to guarantee the availability of subsidised drugs across the state.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abba Sani-Kalgo, announced the establishment of the Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics with a ₦900 million take-off grant. Prof. Umar Usman was appointed as the state’s first Statistician-General.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Mu’azu, said ₦3 billion was approved for the purchase of 2,000 power tillers under the Kaura Development Agenda (KADAGE) to boost agricultural productivity.

To strengthen education, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Maccido, disclosed that ₦1.4 billion had also been approved for the procurement of school furniture to enhance learning conditions in public schools.

Marshall urged citizens to continue supporting the administration’s efforts, assuring that Governor Idris remains steadfast in improving living standards and driving sustainable development across Kebbi State.
