President Bola Tinubu on Friday departed Abuja for Ibadan, Oyo State, to attend the historic coronation of Senator Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The presidential jet took off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with Tinubu set to join other top dignitaries at the official installation ceremony holding at the iconic Mapo Hall.
The President’s presence, alongside other eminent Nigerians, highlights the national importance of the occasion as Ibadan marks the continuity of its centuries-old traditional institution.
Ladoja, 81, a former governor of Oyo State, businessman, and respected political figure, emerged as the new Olubadan following the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7.
Excitement has been building across Ibadan as the city prepares to witness Ladoja’s formal ascension to the revered throne, which carries deep cultural, historical, and political significance among the Yoruba people.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland remains the paramount traditional ruler of Ibadan—the largest city in West Africa—and an institution symbolic of Yoruba heritage and pride.
