Ibadan — In a historic ceremony, former Oyo State Governor, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has officially ascended the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The coronation took place at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, following Ladoja’s reception of the symbolic Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba — a traditional rite marking his elevation.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who interrupted his annual vacation to witness the event, is scheduled to present Oba Ladoja with the official staff and instruments of office at the iconic Mapo Hall in a separate ceremony.
The event drew prominent figures, including former Governor Gbenga Daniel, alongside other dignitaries, amid tight security arrangements.
Oba Ladoja’s ascension follows the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025. Further details on the coronation and related festivities are expected in the coming days.
