Ex-Rivers Sole Administrator Must Account for State Funds — Annkio Briggs

Human rights activist, Annkio Briggs, has accused the immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, of mismanaging the state’s resources during his short tenure in office.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Briggs insisted that Ibas, who served for just six months, must give a full account of how public funds were spent.

“He (Ibok-Ete Ibas) spent our money. He has to account to the people of Rivers State, even to Nigerians, for the sake of integrity, justice, and fairness,” she said.

Briggs argued that it was unacceptable for an administrator to oversee the state’s finances and simply walk away without accountability.

“You can’t come into a state, get hold of all its resources and funds, stay there for six months, and just walk away as if you were never there,” she stressed.

She emphasized that the demand for accountability was not personal but a matter of justice: “He was here for six months, and within that six months, he spent our money; that’s the truth. I see no reason why people wonder why we call it our money. It’s our money.”
