Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a fresh attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as the greatest danger to Nigeria’s democracy since 1999.
In a post shared on his verified X handle on Sunday, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of sliding into dictatorship.
Atiku made the remarks during a solidarity visit to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, who was reportedly attacked by APC-sponsored thugs at the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna.
“This evening, I paid a solidarity visit to former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, over his attack by APC-sponsored thugs at the recent inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State,” Atiku wrote.
He continued: “I reiterated that the activities of the Tinubu-led APC administration pose the greatest risk to our democracy since the return of democratic governance. It is concerning that this administration has turned into a full-blown dictatorship.”
Atiku’s comments add to his growing criticism of the current government as opposition figures rally for a stronger coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
