Osun Judiciary Shut Down as JUSUN Embarks on Indefinite Strike Over Welfare, Promotions

Osun reverses directives cancelling cross-over, New Year religious service

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State chapter, has declared an indefinite strike, directing all members across the state to withdraw their services and stay away from work until further notice.

The strike, which commenced on Friday, was confirmed in a statement signed by the union’s chairman, Comrade Idris Adedayo, and made available to DAILY POST.

Adedayo explained that the resumption of an earlier suspended industrial action became inevitable after the expiration of a three-day ultimatum issued on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. He blamed the strike on the refusal of the Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Oyetola Adepele Ojo, to engage with the union leadership.

“It is with great regret that we announce the escalation of our industrial action. Despite our letter of September 3, 2025, and the subsequent three-day ultimatum, the Judicial Service Commission has failed to engage with us. This unfortunate lack of response suggests a disturbing disregard for the rule of law and industrial harmony,” the statement read.

The union accused Justice Ojo of failing to address pressing issues around staff welfare and the 2024/2025 promotions.

Among JUSUN’s demands are:

Expedited promotions – The union wants the JSC to urgently convene a meeting to consider promotions for judiciary staff for 2024 and 2025, noting that other state ministries and parastatals have already received approvals and benefits.

Training and capacity building – JUSUN is calling on the Commission to sponsor judiciary staff for National Judicial Institute (NJI) training programs to enhance their skills.

The union leadership urged members to stand firm in solidarity, stressing that the strike is aimed at safeguarding the rights and interests of judiciary workers in the state.
