Kwankwaso Opens Door to Alliance Talks

Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he and his supporters remain open to political dialogue and possible alliances but insisted that no such talks are currently taking place.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, the former Kano State governor dismissed widespread reports of ongoing negotiations with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Our members are not in a hurry; everything we do is carefully considered,” Kwankwaso said. “The NNPP is not in discussions with any political party at the moment for the purpose of forming an alliance, but that does not rule out future engagements. We are politicians, and we are always open to dialogue with anyone willing to engage with us.”

His remarks come amid speculation that President Bola Tinubu is making moves to woo him into the All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso’s recent visit to the Presidential Villa fueled the rumors, especially after he declined to address journalists following the meeting.

Reports also suggest that Tinubu may consider offering Kwankwaso a ministerial role as part of efforts to secure his defection to the APC. At the same time, there is talk of possible alliance considerations between the NNPP and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

For now, however, Kwankwaso insists the NNPP is focused on consolidating its strength, while keeping the door open for meaningful political engagement in the future.
