BAUCHI — Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has dismissed claims that he is positioning himself for the vice-presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, the governor, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, insisted that while he remains open to serving if chosen by the party’s leadership and presidential candidate, he has not set his sights on the role.
“I am not withdrawing because I want to prepare myself for the vice presidency. Of course, if it is within the consensus of our party leaders and the presidential candidate to choose me, I am ready. But certainly, if I am not given it, I will give my maximum support to whoever emerges,” Mohammed said.
Addressing reports of a possible PDP joint ticket featuring Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as presidential candidate with himself as running mate, Mohammed described the claims as baseless.
“I and Seyi have never discussed the issue of pairing. What we have mentioned is the issue of taking over power by the grace of God so that we can give Nigerians the opportunity of good governance in 2027 and beyond,” he clarified.
The governor emphasized that his priority remains strengthening the PDP and ensuring the party presents a formidable front in its bid to return to power in 2027.
