Ganduje in Fresh Trouble as Kano Govt Probes Alleged Sale of Multi-Billion Naira Abattoir

KANO — Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has come under fresh scrutiny as the state government inaugurated an 11-man panel to investigate the alleged sale of the multi-billion naira Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) Abattoir in Chalawa Industrial Area.

The expansive facility, built by the administration of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was originally designed to boost revenue generation and create employment opportunities for residents. Allegations that the Ganduje administration sold it off under questionable circumstances have now triggered calls for accountability.

Inaugurating the panel on Wednesday, Secretary to the State Government, Umar Faruq Ibrahim, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, said the probe was necessary to safeguard public assets and ensure that those who acted in bad faith are held accountable. He emphasized that the government has a duty to recover critical infrastructure allegedly auctioned off for selfish interests.

The panel, headed by former Chairman of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Agency, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, has been empowered to scrutinize all documents and approvals related to the abattoir, determine whether due process was followed, recover lost assets, and recommend appropriate sanctions against those involved.

Speaking after the inauguration, Rimin-Gado assured that the committee would carry out its assignment diligently, stressing that the investigation would be conducted without fear, favor, or affection.

The committee is expected to submit its report within three weeks.
